Kagro in the Morning

Sep 20, 2022

David Waldman, still humming shanties from yesterday, shares Tuesday’s news booty:

The Queen is dead, long live the Queen. Aren’t we just about out of royal media to consume? Arise, Sir Guy of Former, King of QAnon, Orange Jesus, humble goat herder.

The Guardian asks, did Trump really hide classified documents in his former wife’s grave? Or is the left now as bonkers as the right? Well, given only those two choices, a sane person might expect Donald’s usual MO. Trump’s present lawyers aren’t crazy. Team Trump knows where the Mar-a-Lago search will lead, they just want it to get there later, once their client has passed away and the estate pays them, a goal of many attorneys. Judge Raymond Dearie taking over as special master might only buy them just a few weeks, however, so it’s up to cheeseburgers to make everybody happy.

The Guardian should check out the story of the man not competent to stand trial who forged US Treasury documents that eventually made it onto the Florida docket on the Mar-a-Lago case.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced a probe into Ron DeSantis’ ongoing migrant scams. Venezuelans have had it worse, but probably didn’t expect this treatment. Judd Legum revealed evidence that DeSantis committed a crime. Ron DeSantis could comment, but that would interrupt his fundraising.

Liz Cheney and Zoe Lofgren are overhauling the Electoral Count Act to help prevent election overthrows. It may help, but it won’t stop Republicans from trying.

Joan McCarter tells us disasters might alter, but Republicans can’t stop, the upcoming government funding bill. No one is undecided on codifying same-sex marriage, but bipartisan efforts lead by Chuck Schumer and Susan Collins have delayed the vote.
